GUIDANCE FOR CHANGEMAKERS IN FASHION

When I graduated as a fashion designer two years ago, I didn’t even know that “project manager” was a job title. To me, a “project” simply meant a design assignment. But I always sensed that the way I approached creative tasks was a little different from how many of my peers did. I was more structured, more deliberate. I planned every step.

And it wasn’t just about design. In every area of my life, I naturally developed systems, found ways to improve efficiency, and stuck to deadlines. I liked being productive. It’s just the way I am.

It was actually my boyfriend (hello if you’re reading this!) who pointed out that all of these qualities sounded a lot like project management. At the time, I was working on building a bridal wear brand which I didn’t enjoy. So I took his advice and looked into it. I enrolled in the Google Project Management course on Coursera (which I highly recommend—I’ll share more about it soon in a separate post). Almost instantly, it clicked. The tools, the mindset, the structure—it all aligned with the way I already approached work. And I was fascinated.

Fast forward to today: I hold both the Google Project Management Certificate and the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) credential from the Project Management Institute. I apply these skills across many roles—volunteering for the PMI UK Chapter, serving as a member and secretary of the PMI UK Toastmasters Club, and managing projects for Fashion Revolution Poland.

So yes, it escalated quickly. From not knowing project management existed to embracing it as a core part of who I am.

Why Project Management Belongs Here

So, why include project management on this platform—and what does it have to do with empowering changemakers in fashion?

Here’s what I’ve seen: in the world of project management, there aren’t many creatives. And in creative spaces, structure is often treated with suspicion—something that might stifle imagination. But the truth is: for any great idea to become reality, it needs an execution framework.

Project management doesn’t have to mean rigid structures, Gantt charts, or corporate jargon. It can be intuitive, empowering, and human. That’s exactly what I want to explore here.

On this platform, I’ll show how project management tools can help creative people and purpose-led teams bring their ideas to life. Expect:

  • Practical tools and templates
  • Productivity and time management tips
  • Strategies for leading and motivating a team
  • Better ways to communicate with different stakeholders
  • Insights into public speaking and self-confidence
  • And practices for maintaining wellbeing while doing meaningful work

This Space Is for You

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by turning ideas into action—this space is here to help. I want to make project management feel accessible and inspiring for creatives, not corporate or cold.

In my next post, I’ll be sharing the key resources that have helped me grow in this field—and that I continue to use as I evolve. Stay tuned.
